Prohibited Goods
Canatrado is focused on legitimate, documentable Canada-origin trade. Certain categories are prohibited outright, and others are restricted and only permitted with the correct licences, permits, and certifications. This list is illustrative, not exhaustive.
Prohibited categories
Weapons & munitions
Firearms, ammunition, explosives, and military or dual-use controlled goods.
Controlled substances
Illegal drugs, narcotics, and precursor chemicals subject to control.
Endangered species
CITES-listed wildlife, ivory, and products derived from protected species.
Counterfeit & IP-infringing goods
Replica or pirated products that infringe trademarks or copyright.
Hazardous materials
Certain chemicals, radioactive material, and waste requiring special permits.
Human & animal products
Human remains, certain biological materials, and uncertified animal products.
Restricted (permit required)
The following may be traded only where all applicable approvals are in place:
- —Food, plant, and agricultural products requiring phytosanitary or CFIA certification
- —Pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and supplements requiring regulatory approval
- —Alcohol, tobacco, and other excise-controlled goods
- —Cultural property, antiquities, and items requiring export permits
- —Goods subject to sanctions, embargoes, or destination-country restrictions
Your responsibility
Import and export rules differ by country and product and change over time. You are responsible for confirming that any goods you intend to source comply with Canadian export law and your destination country's import law.
